Fairly recently Diana & I decided to organise a weekend away for riders in the greater Cape Town area… This is how it panned out…!!!
What exactly is an African, or an American, or European, Asian? When trying to get ones head around the concept, idea, geography and even genetics involved with ‘Being African’, in my case most anthropologist, seems to me, are a little stumped… if arguably East Africa (Afar Triangle) or Southern Africa (Cradle of Humankind), notwithstanding any contradictory arguments, is indeed where humanity originated… then are we not all African!?
At the beginning of September, inter-provincial borders opened for unhindered internal traveling around South Africa. We had been waiting to take a road trip up to Johannesburg in order to spend time with Joe’s girls (Jade 12 and Erin almost 10). We quickly set about planning a trip that would visit some old friends and make some new friends as we got away for a looong ride of almost 10,000 km (combined mileage)…
All Countries around the world have amazing stories and facts to share, often these facts are quite gobsmacking, to use an English expression. Well, down here in South Africa, that is that big chunk of land right at the bottom of the African Continent, we have facts that many will not believe! You may well find yourself checking these facts twice on Wikipedia…
Many countries around the world have started to open up their borders again to allow traveling during the summer holidays in the northern hemisphere. South Africa is still continuing with the Corona-lockdown, but we are hoping to open up for tourism again soon. In the meantime we explore other options – and they are virtually out of this world.
After our Easter ride-out (see previous blog) from the confines of our apartment, a few thoughts on the current lockdown craziness.
Almost end-April 2020, the Easter Weekend has come and gone. Eerily quiet as our superb sun-drenched white sand beach, normally packed with locals and international visitors enjoying the balmy late South African summer, are now… deserted without a soul to be seen!
Borders closed, flights cancelled, people urged to #StayAtHome and #SocialDistancing rules re-shaping the way we live our everyday lives.
